Admissions

We realize that making the decision to seek treatment for an eating disorder, whether it’s you or a loved one can be extremely difficult. Our goal is to make the admission process comfortable and thorough. Below are the steps we like to follow for every admission.

Initial Inquiry

A phone call or e-mail will either be answered or returned by Kourtney Klepfer MSW ACSW #21743 Program Director. She  will be happy to answer questions about our program and eating disorders in general. We will also ask some general questions about your situation and help you determine next steps.  Our goal is to schedule an evaluation as soon as possible.

Out of Town People

If you are contemplating starting treatment with us we will conduct a phone assessment and if we determine that we can offer you the level of care you need, we will confirm a space for you.

Patients Discharging from Inpatient Settings

If you are stepping down from an inpatient program, we are the ideal aftercare program. We will closely work with your inpatient team to make sure that there is continuity of care for you. We can conduct a phone intake with you prior to leaving the residential facility and confirm a space for you to start as soon as you come to San Diego.

Verification of Insurance Benefits

We will provide you with a superbill which you may submit to your insurance company. The costs of the program are payable up front. You will need to check with your insurance company to determine what the coverage is. Neither Healthy Within nor Dr. Kakaiya are members on insurance panels. We are considered out of network providers. Additionally, many insurance companies have guidelines about whether care provided by an ACSW intern or a MFT intern will be covered.

Assessment

During the phone inquiry, if it appears that the patient may be appropriate for our Intensive Outpatient Program, we offer an initial assessment. The goal of an assessment is to determine the appropriate level of care for the patient. The cost of the assessment is $375.00. The levels of care we offer are outpatient and intensive outpatient. Our intake clinician will also let the patient know if they recommend inpatient care at another facility. The assessment helps us to determine which facility will be best for your loved one, or yourself. Dr. Kakaiya is well known nationally and has very strong positive connections with most of the inpatient programs around the country. We will help you choose which will the best program for the person needing a higher level of care than what we offer. The team determines what the level of care is that is appropriate for the person.

An initial assessment consists of our Admissions Director, interviewing the patient. For patients who live out of town, this assessment can be conducted over the phone, but a meeting in person is preferred as close to admission as possible. Meeting in person gives the patient a chance to visit our clinic and meet our staff.

In the assessment, the therapist will ask the patient about his or her symptoms, mood, background and prior counseling history. The patient can also ask questions about our program and tour the facility. Dr. Kakaiya and Kourtney will be actively evaluating what is the best level of care and our recommendation will be given after a careful assessment. For adolescents, we like to interview the parents as well. For the assessment we will ask you to arrive 1 hour early to fill out paperwork. Additionally, we will ask for a deposit to hold your space in the program. The entire assessment will take up to 2 hours so please plan on that amount of time. A second meeting time will be set-up after the first appointment for us to give you feedback on our recommendations.

Financial Verification

Self Pay

The total cost of the program is $8400. The breakdown of costs is as follows:

  • $2100 payable first month
  • $2100 payable second month
  • $2100 payable third month
  • $2100 payable fourth month

Insurance Coverage

We are not network providers for any insurance companies and therefore we are strictly a private pay clinic. Our goal is to provide the person with optimum, individualized clinical care without any interruptions in treatment. Various insurance companies have limitations to the amount of coverage they offer. Recovery from an eating disorder takes a long time and patience. One of the reasons why we choose not to participate in panels is because we want to guide the level and intensity of care that an individual needs.

My First Day at Healthy Within

We will schedule your first day as soon as possible. The staff at Healthy Within understands that the first steps are very difficult and we work very hard to make the admissions process as comfortable as possible. We take steps to make sure the patient is informed every step of the way and try to accommodate unique circumstances and scheduling conveniences. When you arrive on the first day please come 30 minutes early so that the Program Director can conduct an orientation with you.
